A FEW THOUGHTS ON TODAYS READING...
Much of our problems in life stem from how we identify ourselves. Do we classify ourselves as Republican or Democrat, Conservative or Liberal, etc. In truth, for those who are in Christ every issue should be answered on whether we are in Him or not in Him with all other distinctions being blurred. As Paul stated in Galatians 3:28, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
We see in the Song of Moses just before he died, in Deuteronomy 32:3-4, "For I proclaim the name of the Lord: Ascribe greatness to our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and Upright is He." Do we really feel this way? We read about Moses in 34:10-12, "But since then there has not arisen a prophet like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, in all the signs and wonders which the Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt, before Pharoah, before all his servants, and in all his land, and by all the mighty power and all the great terror which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel." Moses truly was an amazing character in obedience to God's direction, in faithfulness to the Israelites, and in absolute meekness and humility before God. Yet his act of disobedience at the waters of Meribah back in Numbers 20 was enough to take away the privilege of entering the promised land. So many of us would scream "unfair", "not right",etc. But not Moses, who long ago realized that not only is God capable of anything but He is just in everything. 1300 years later, we read the words of Jesus concerning John the Baptist in Matthew 11:11, "Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he." Yet despite this, John the Baptist was taken out of the earthly picture well before being able to personally witness the death and resurrection of His Savior. Later in the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11, it concludes in 11:39-40, "And all these having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us."
We as a nation can continue to place our hope and trust in a political party, a specific politician, etc. We can fall for persuasive speeches, emotional rhetoric, etc. But ultimately it really does come down to something black and white. Is He or is He not God? Is He or is He not just, loving, capable and in charge? Is the world spinning out of control into utter chaos, or is everything going on under the watchful eyes of an omniscient God? We really can't have it both ways, belief in the One negates believing what the other says. With events moving toward the conclusion (no one knows the time or hour), more important than any distraction that tries to pull our focus away, each and every one of us must make a pivotal decision, are we going to seek life our way or His way. While there is still breath in our lungs, may we all pause and consider the gospel message. May we all see ourselves the imperfect sinners that we are and repent (change our minds) of our sinful ways. May we then seek the only true solution which is accepting the perfect sacrifice made on our behalf by our perfect Savior, Jesus Christ, and be released from the bondage of self, sin and death. Then may we experience the freedom and clarity that can only happen by making Him the Lord of our lives.
THIS WEEKS MEMORY VERSE
Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you. ~Deuteronomy 31:6
